Wednesday, May 10, was Teacher Appreciation Day at Sylvandale Middle School. Parents treated teachers to a delicious lunch. Students throughout the school thanked their favorite teachers for a job well done. Teachers were humbled and thankful for all the attention that was given to them. It is nice to be appreciated.

The Sylvandale Boy's and Girl's Choir entertained classes on Valentine's Day. For the price of a candy bar and maybe some additional flowers, students were serenaded with a sweet love song. Mr. Richard Lyman, choir director said the enterprise was a success with a total of 102 valentines sold. On November 15, the FMSD School Board Recognized Sylvandale's Award Winning Video Game Designers. A total of 16 Sylvandale students were recognized for their outstanding achievement in computational fluency, engineering, coding, teamwork, ​and design thinking through Sylvandale’s Globaloria Program. Alexander Galindo, Amy Vo, and Jennifer Ta were named National Finalists. Alexander Galindo and Jennifer Ta won National Awards for their Mobile games. Congratulations!

The winners were Jennifer Ta for Circle of Life Mobile game and Alexander Galindo for Atomic life. Both students designed their games under the guidance of Globaloria Sylvandale. Narrowing down the forty-seven national finalists – 26 girls and 21 boys – from the 274 regional finalists, students hail from across the country from Queens, New York to Houston, Texas; Pryor, Oklahoma to Elkins, West Virginia; and Salt Lake City, Utah to San Jose, Silicon Valley. Sylvandale Finalists will travel to Austin, Texas for the final competition and awards ceremony on September 24, 2016.
