About Me: Chitralekha Dasgupta

Greetings!

I teach 7th-grade science here at Sylvandale. I have taught various grade levels throughout my teaching career ranging from elementary to high school. I enjoy being active in our school’s community and am a member of the NGSS committee at the Franklin-McKinley District Office and AAPI member at the Santa Clara County Office of Education. I am also the CJSF Advisor. I have taught GATE here and was the GATE coordinator for a number of years. I took part in the IBM Mentor Place resulting in our students participating in the Ignite and Excite summer camps for no charge.

My educational background consists of a Bachelor’s degree in Science, Masters degree in Comparative Endocrinology, and a Bachelors degree in Education from an International University in India. I completed my Biotechnology Certification and Single Subject Teaching credential here in California.

I love gardening, knitting, soccer, crocheting, and cooking. I have created the beautiful school garden with other teachers here. I believe in working as a team with parents for the development of their children.

I am looking forward to teaching and getting to know all your children even more. Together, we will explore various areas of science. The students will learn how to ask questions and discover the answers through investigations, just like real scientists do!

I believe students learn science by doing science, and that my classes are a medium through which my students will learn life skills that are critical for their success in college and future careers.  As our students must be prepared to work cooperatively in a global and technological society where many of them will eventually hold jobs that do not yet exist, I emphasize critical thinking and problem solving, using our science content to develop good evidence-based reasoning and communication skills.

I look forward to a wonderful school year.

Please feel free to contact me anytime by email or give me a call.
