2018 Sylvandale Track Springs into Action

Recently, Sylvandale Track, under the guidance of Coach Tony Gianotti, had its first meet of the season. It was an intra-squad track meet that had over 150 kids participating in every type of field event from hurdles and triple jump to relays and 100-meter dash. Students were excited by the chance to compete and improve their personal best. Many teachers were on board to supervise and act as timers for the race events.

Sylvandale's New Library Tech

Sylvandale welcomes its new library tech, Junior Bitao. Mr. Bitao has been on the support-staff at Sylvandale for 12 years, but this is his first time as a library tech. He started in the teaching profession in the late 90's after graduating from college in the Philippines. Mr. Bitao enjoys watching TV, eating, and going out with his family. He has two beautiful girls and feels very contented with his life thus far.

Sylvandale Visits Google Village

Recently, over a two day period, one hundred Sylvandale students visited the Mountain View Google Campus. Hosted by Googler Veer Dedhia and school volunteer Martha Reitman, students got the chance to mingle with Googlers, tour the large campus, and learn about cybersecurity. Students were able to eat lunch for free at the amazing Google cafeteria and speak to the Sylvandale Alumni who are now Google employees. It was a learning experience that will not soon be forgotten.

Cesar Chavez Day of Service

In honor of Cesar Chavez, Sylvandale Morning of Service will be this Friday from 7:30 am-11: 30 am. Volunteers will be working in​ the school garden and the area behind the shed and portables. Anyone wanting to join this effort may sign up in the school office.

Sylvandale's Amazing Art Teacher, Kim Wallace Celebrates the Lunar New Year

Everyday the work of Ms. Wallace's students astound her. She says her goal in art class is to give her students memorable experiences and not just teach lessons. Her philosophy to teaching art is to let her students have a good time and explore art through the projects she guides them through. Her favorite projects are the multicultural ones, as for example, the Chinese Lantern project her classes recently completed in honor of the Lunar New Year and Tet Festival, celebrated February 15 through February 18.

Sylvandale is Alive with the Sound of Music

Mr. Richard Lyman, Sylvandale's Music director for last two years, has big plans for his program in the Spring and the coming months. Right now his classes are working on a joint concert with Andrew Hill High School. The pop music and choir classes are preparing for the popular Singing Valentines that will be presented to peers and staff. Sylvandale is lucky to have the musical chops of Mr. Lyman.

Sylvandale Students Shine at Science Fair

Students exhibited​ projects that demonstrate skills and concepts across a range of engineering and science disciplines. Competing in the fair required students to conceive, design, conduct, evaluate and report on a science experiment. Judges have been evaluating each project and winners will be announced soon.

The 2017 Turkey Trot - The 31 Year Tradition Continues.

Turkey Trot, the brain child of long time PE teacher, Carl White, has once again finished successfully. Turkey Trot has been a tradition at Sylvandale for over 31 years. This year over 40 turkeys were awarded to students who completed the 1.5 mile course. May the tradition continue long into the future.
